Our Historical Westport Adirondack Chairs Adirondack chair history is unclear if the Westport chair is actually the chair many people believe to be the original, but nevertheless it is the one in the history books. Just like the original Westport chair our version is very comfortable and built with wide 9" inch arms and a solid one piece back. We build it with your choice of either Kentucky Yellow Poplar or Mahogany wood. This is a real unique chair as well as a wonderful representation of American history. American Iconic Adirondack Chairs "Wide arms - Sturdy Lasting Designs - Detailed Craftsmanship" By the 1940's Adirondack chairs had become an icon of American suburban and country life. These older traditional chairs had two hallmark features, straight raked backs and wide extra large arms that you could have a meal on as well as sit on. Staying true to tradition, our "Classic" Big Red and Lakeview chairs are made with large wide arms, but we have added some improvements. When you look at our Classic Adirondack chairs you can easily see they are built extremely sturdy, but once you sit in one you will actually feel the difference. What is Your Best Wood Choice? Unfortunately, Mother Nature shrinks and swells wood which may cause it to warp, split, check or cup. Therefore, it is important to carefully choose the right wood for your climate and care requirements. For example, Ipe unfinished Adirondack chairs are perfect for areas that normally cannot have wood. They are as tough and as care free as you will find. Redwood Adirondack chairs have earned the reputation as being some of the best. Mahogany wood has been used in boats for years as well as for premium wooden outdoor furniture. Without a doubt taking the time to choose the right wood for your Adirondack chairs and Adirondack Furniture is worth the effort. We use the following woods to build our chairs, ottomans and tables: Cypress, Mahogany, Kentucky Yellow Poplar, California Redwood, Ipe, Red Western Cedar, Cumaru, and Treated Yellow Pine. We will gladly discuss with you what wood would be best for your climate and care needs. |
